Defensive Riding

Defensive Riding Course:
One of the best approaches to motorcycling safety, is to be predictable, and also to pre-empt what might be about to happen right in front of you.
When we are riding, we should constantly be making a riding plan: This entails taking into account, what we can see, what we cannot see, and what we can reasonably expect to happen.
How many times have you followed another vehicle, and you watch it as it starts to slow down and move towards one side of their lane. You think to yourself, they must be about to change lanes, but, where are the indicators??? I know, indicators were an optional extra on that vehicle when it was bought.......
Being unpredictable, means that we often take other road users by surprise. i.e riding close behind a large vehicle that is turning left at an intersection, or riding in such a way that we blend in to the background.
Always present yourself to the other drivers, including riding in a position where they can see us in their mirrors.
The defensive riding course will teach you all these things,......and more!!

It will teach you how to stay alive on the roads, and how to cope with the other people that we share the road with, such as Learner drivers, foreign drivers on NZ licences, foreign drivers with campervans, elderly drivers who may have some cognitive impairment, and those drivers who are just plain awful drivers......
In New Zealand, at the time of writing, there is no availability of a practical Defensive RIDING course that will shorten the time you spend on your restricted licence. I tried a few years ago, to get some of my courses approved to reduce your RL time, and the powerful people said that I had submitted very good courses, but if they couldn’t be implemented nationwide, then we couldn’t just have them in Auckland. End of that road!!!
SO, in order to reduce the time on your Restricted Licence, you will be required to undertake the 9 hour Defensive Driving Course which is for car drivers. Nothing in the content about motorcycle riding. (I offer this course, so look it up at the bottom of the training offered links.)
I would encourage you though, to spend the time and money instead, and spend the extra time on your restricted licence, and learn how to stay alive on your bike, by taking a DEFENSIVE RIDING COURSE.
Find out what some training can do for you!!!!
